Pensions Forum will Focus on Improving Retirement Outcomes for British Columbians
BC Financial Services Authority (“BCFSA”) is hosting a forum for pension stakeholders on October 13, 2022, focused on achieving better retirement outcomes for people living in British Columbia. The Pensions Stakeholder Engagement Forum brings together plan administrators, sponsors, service providers, and pension experts to discuss pension-related issues in the province and share ideas on how to address risks so that British Columbians can get the most out of their pensions.
“Many British Columbians depend on the pensions sector to plan for their futures so they can retire comfortably. Through effective and efficient oversight, we’re working hard to ensure people in the province can count on a stable pensions sector. We want them to be able to focus on the people and things that matter most to them in their retirement years,” says Blair Morrison, BCFSA CEO and Superintendent of Pensions. “This forum is an opportunity to discuss and tackle issues together with sector stakeholders – and at the end of the day, British Columbians receive the benefits of this collaboration.”
Blair Morrison will launch the forum with an overview of B.C.’s financial services sector regulatory landscape followed by Chris Elgar, BCFSA Senior Vice President of Supervision, who will provide an overview of BCFSA’s supervisory framework and approach to emerging risks in pensions.
Although this year’s forum is targeted to defined contribution plans, the overall objective is to improve retirement outcomes for all British Columbians. Therefore, administrators of other types of pension plans are also encouraged to participate. There will be three panel discussions lead by industry experts on the below topics:
- Designing an Effective Investment Strategy for Defined Contribution Plans;
- Decumulation Options – Plan Design Considerations; and
- Effective Member Communication and Education Strategy.
Please note that participation in the forum is by invitation only and invitations are being sent out to plan administrators and pension plan service providers. If you are a plan administrator or service provider and have not received an invitation, please send an email to [email protected].
